Get to know some of your new officers and directors with
these brief biographies:
PRESIDENT:
Jeff Stebbins (Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes)
Jeff has been a member of ACBS for 20 years. He has served the Bob Speltz
Land-O-Lakes chapter as Vice President and President. For three years Jeff
was an International Director, and a Vice President for five years. Jeff
grew up with boats and has been boating his entire life. He purchased his
first wood boat over 30 years ago “when they were affordable and nobody
wanted them.” In 1999 he spearheaded the successful ACBS fundraiser “300 for
300” Suburban raffle. The following year Jeff and his wife Nancy won the
Rover Award for organizing the Northern Mississippi River Cruise. They live
on Lake Minnetonka just west of Minneapolis.
VICE PRESIDENT:
Bob Bush (Northern Cal/Lake Tahoe)
Joining ACBS in 1976, Bob is a past president of the Northern
California/Lake Tahoe chapter. He has been a director since 1999 and has
served as committee chairman for both the Awards Committee and Chapter
Roundtable. Bob and his son, Tim, recently completed restoration of a 1947
Chris-Craft 25ft. Sportsman named Mister President. He is the owner of
Custom Gear and Machine in San Leandro, California. Bob and his wife Arlene
have enjoyed travelling the county to ACBS meetings and boating activities.
SECRETARY:
Wil Vidal (Blackhawk)
Wil has been a Blackhawk Chapter member since 1999 and serves as a director
of the chapter as well as its newsletter editor. He is currently on the Lake
Geneva Boat Show Committee. For nineteen years, Wil has been editor of the
Little Muskego Lake Association’s newsletter. Wil has served as an officer
and is now a director of the Association, who’s purpose is the protection of
Little Muskego Lake. Wil lives in Muskego with his wife Mary and enjoys
skiing, photography, golf and traveling as well as activities associated
with antique boating. This will be his second term as Secretary.
TREASURER:
Ann Storandt (Thousand Islands)
Ann is a CPA and has supported the financial and administrative activities
of Headquarters for several years. Before becoming treasurer, as a resident
of Clayton, she prepared ACBS payroll and financial records. She enjoys
boating on the St. Lawrence River. A Lyman runabout was her family’s boat
for thirty years. She continues the wooden boat family tradition with her
1928 Chris-Craft Cadet. Ann is now a resident of Key West.
ACBS DIRECTORS - SEPTEMBER 2003 - 2006
Roger Hamblin (New England)
Roger grew up in Sandusky, Ohio, the home of the Lyman Boat Company. He
worked at the Lyman Boat Company during his college years and has always had
a passion for Lyman boats. He recently completed a full restoration of a
1936 Lyman. Roger joined the New England Chapter of ACBS in 1991. He is
currently serving his second year as the boat show chairman and is also a
director of the New England Chapter. Roger and his wife Tish share their
time between Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, and Hobe Sound, Florida.
Norm Kitching (N Cal/Lake Tahoe)
Norm joined the Northern California/Lake Tahoe chapter in 1998 after getting
hooked on his first boat, a 1959 Chris-Craft ski boat. He was nominated to
the Board of Directors of his chapter and took the Membership job starting
in 1999. The chapter has since doubled in size to over 500 member families.
Norm and his wife Kathy reside in Los Altos, California.
John Matzinger
(Southern California)
John joined the Southern California Chapter of the ACBS in 1991. He has
served as the founder and chairman of the Small Boat Ocean Racing
Association and secretary of the Long Beach Yacht Club. John has served as a
director of his chapter and has also volunteered as a technical advisor and
judge at various ACBS events. John and his wife Carolyn enjoy their 1940
17ft Chris-Craft in Long Beach, California.
Dick Werner
(Columbia Willamette)
Dick has a lot of fond memories of growing up in the 50’s around the rivers
and lakes of Ohio and Michigan in Centurys and Chris-Crafts. His interest in
wooden boats was resurrected in the late 1980’s when he purchased first a
17ft Chris-Craft runabout and later a 19ft 1940 Chris-Craft barrelback. Dick
joined ACBS in 1990 and two years later helped form the Columbia Willamette
chapter. Four years ago Dick acquired and totally restored a rare Century
triple cockpit, Sweet Louise which received the Boat of the Year award in
Coeur d’Alene.
