Business of the 2002 Annual Meeting

More than 500 folks attended the Annual Meeting and First Annual ACBS
International Boat Show in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Everything from the weather to
the length of the meeting was perfect. Inasmuch as there were no big issues or
surprises, business was tended to with dispatch allowing us more time to enjoy
the glorious weather. The new officers and directors who were elected to
represent us include:
Officers
President - Dick Sherwood (Finger Lakes)
Vice President - John Howard (Niagara Frontier)
Vice President - Jeff Rogers (Water Wonderland)
Secretary - Wil Vidal (Blackhawk)
Treasurer - Ann Storandt (1000 Islands)

Rick Terry (Toronto)
Greg Benson (Bob Speltz/Land-O-Lakes) second term
On Saturday evening we enjoyed cocktails and a silent auction followed by
dinner, awards presentations, a live auction and dancing. Winners of the 2002
awards were:
- Best Magazine: Waterline (Water Wonderland); Jim & Wendy Mersman, Editors
- Runner-up Magazine: ClassicBoat (Toronto); Andy Adams, Editor
- Best Newsletter: Cutwater (New England); Godfrey Howard, Editor
- Runner-up Newsletter: Waterline (Dixieland); Don Douglas, Editor
- Most Improved Newsletter: Bilge Pump (Rocky Mountain); Kathy Lange, Editor
- Rover Award: Curt and Marsha Erickson, Ike Kielgass and Barb Carpner for
their work in planning and executing a houseboat cruise, described by the
participants as wonderful, on Lake Roosevelt prior to the Annual Meeting.
- Mary Herwig Award: Bette Shutt for many years of hard work and devotion to
the Northern California/Lake Tahoe Chapter and for serving longer than any
other officer on the National ACBS Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Founders Award: Mo Sherrill for having the vision, along with other founders,
to foresee the interest that would develop in old wooden boats.
- Presidents Cup - Bob Bush and Jeff Rogers. Immediate Past President, Jean
Hoffman, was emphatic about her choices for recipients of this coveted award.
Both Bob and Jeff have served the Society well for a number of years, serving
often beyond the call of duty.
- Hagerty Safety Award: Dick Sligh.
