ANTIQUE & CLASSIC BOAT SHOW, SKANEATELES, NY July 24-27 2003
By Dick Sherwood, President ACBS
You are invited to Skaneateles, NY to attend the ACBS
Summer Board of Directors Meeting to be held in conjunction with the 25th
Anniversary Boat Show of the Finger Lakes Chapter of ACBS over the weekend of
July 24 -27, 2003. The picturesque village of Skaneateles is located at the
northern end of Skaneateles Lake, the second most easterly of the eleven lakes
that make up the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of central New York State.
Events will get underway on Thursday evening with a three-hour welcoming Dinner
Cruise aboard the Judge Ben Wiles, a 65-ft, 40 ton motor vessel seating 102
people and operated by Mid-Lakes Navigation Co., Ltd. Cruise reservations and
dinner selections are required beforehand.
On Friday, the ACBS Chapters Roundtable will begin promptly at 8AM followed by
the ACBS Summer Board Meeting at 10AM, both at The Sherwood Inn, directly across
the street from the boat show site. The day will be rounded out with a barbecue
and an old-fashioned free band concert in the park that draws listeners from
near and far. Judging of some 70 boats will begin on Saturday morning, and a
parade of boats past the waterfront will take place on Saturday afternoon
followed by opportunities for boat rides and time to explore 16-mile long
Skaneateles Lake and the many beautiful homes along its shore. The Boat Show
Banquet will be held Saturday evening, followed by an awards presentation. On
Sunday, brunch is available in the morning and the show continues until mid
afternoon when the Peoples Choice trophy is awarded. Throughout the weekend
about 15,000 spectators will visit the boat show while live music adds a festive
flare to everything that’s happening.
And there are exceptional opportunities for spouses throughout the weekend;
e.g., a memorable relaxing visit to the Mirbeau Inn & Spa, an elegant
European-style resort just a short walk from the boat show; narrated riding
tours of Skaneateles’ historic homes; the village and its many fine shops and
restaurants with an array of offerings; the exhibits of the Skaneateles
Historical Society; visits to any of New York State’s many fine wineries, and
much more. Additional information about the Skaneateles area including lodging
